Mashable: Musical App Design

A common problem I face as a music listener is the defeat of having two favorite songs that simply do not go well together. I go back and forth between genres like metal and electro and sometimes I wish the two could exist harmoniously as one. I love a good mashup but first of all, I’m not tech-savvy enough to blend songs, and second, even if I was, there is a lot that goes into syncing up music. You have to be mindful of BPM, style, key, and length in order to make two songs fit together. But what if I proposed a solution that made the glory of mashups available to beginners?

I feel like I’m not the only listener who has always wondered if two songs would work well together, so I came up with an app proposal to solve our problem. What if there was an app that worked its magic to create a mashup for you? My app idea, Mashable, would take care of the heavy lifting that exists in song crossovers. If everything worked according to plan, Mashable would be programmed with an algorithm that detects things like BPM and key and adjusts two different songs to fit well together. Users would be presented the tools necessary to mix two songs and a place to download their material. As an example, I went ahead and made some page layouts with ibuildapp.com to give a visual representation.

One page would be for uploaded any songs you plan to use. This page would be the ‘Saved Songs’ section and you could use this as a music library for listening, or as a music archive.

Another page would be where the mixing happens. Users could click on the ‘Create’ button on the ‘Mixer’ page and this would be where the magic happens. You would choose two different tracks and Mashable would adjust all the musical components for you in order for the songs to lineup. It would then process and save the track as a new file.

Finally, I would include a couple other widgets that users could access. Perhaps a ‘Recording’ area to add your own creations to the mash, an ‘Advanced’ option for users who want to cut/isolate certain areas of the songs, and a ‘Tuner’ area just in case you need quick access.
